THEN

tree drawing.jpg

As a child I spent a lot of time around the cherry plum tree in my backyard. i used to climb and sit in the tree for hours. The tree grew very big and became dangerous in strong winds so we had to cut it down.

This drawing overlays memories of climbing the tree, playing around it, picking the cherry plums and the stages of it being cut down and regrowing since back then.

NOW

Now, the tree is a  big trunk with shorter, smaller branches stemming off it. It is in the centre of a garden bed surrounded by many different plants. It is difficult to access as there is a boundary placed around the garden bed.

The film demonstrates the difficulty now experienced with interacting with the tree as a site due to the changes over time. It overlays the approaches to the site I can make now to build a connection but now  with obstacles in the way. The cherry plum tree is no longer a place of play and fun it is now a place of observation.
