SITE SPECIFIC NATURAL MATERIALS

A series of compressed earth models composed of a collection of natural materials sourced from three different sites. These models are displayed as layered sections removed from site. They explore developing a connection to site through interacting and understanding the characteristics of the natural materials found.

dirt - mowed grass - veggie patch dirt - fresh grass - bark

soil - mulch - pathway gravel - playground gravel - lake water

sand - porous plaster - dirt - cement - bluestone pebbles

*unable to remove from the mold due to the materials not setting and instead crumbling

PROCESS

Each material was treated differently due to it's individual properties. Dirt was mixed with found water to become solid, rocks were crushed into powder and leaves, grass and barks were shredded before being added as a separate layer in each material mold.
